Earlier this month in New York, New Brunswick's Laura Calder, host of French Food at Home, beat out superstar shows Iron Chef America and Barefoot Contessa for the James Beard Foundation Award for best television show in a studio. It's one of the highest culinary honours in North America.
The three-year-old cooking show, which airs on Food Network Canada, is virtually unknown here. Calder, however, may not be able to walk down the street naked and unnoticed much longer. The program will begin airing May 31st in the US on the Cooking Channel, a new offshoot from the Food Network.
