A Little Canadian Pride For A&W And A Little Something Else For These Very Dedicated Customers

Fun fact: A&W opened in 1956, a decade before McDonald's appeared on the scene and began making its incursion. There are over 800 of them across Canada and the chain apparently inspires a lot of love.

Last Sunday, the A&W on Main Street (and Inkster Boulevard) in Winnipeg caught fire. According to Global News, a bystander called 911 when he noticed clouds of black smoke coming out of the roof. The customers in the drive-thru line were apparently lost in a dreamscape of Chubby Chicken burgers and poutine because they remained there despite smoke that was so thick that the firefighters couldn't get inside.

It was actually one of five fires that broke out over the viciously cold weekend in Winnipeg. The franchise owner plans to rebuild on the same spot.
