Ranked #16, the Canadian has had one of the toughest draws throughout the tournament but after enduring seasons that were injury-plagued, Raonic is looking healthy and at ease at the first Grand Slam of 2019.
In his first match he faced the hot-headed but skilled Nick Kyrgios, an Australian he took out in three
sets. In the second round he played Stan Wawrinka, who has three Grand Slam championships under his belt. Wawrinka took the first set and then battled through the next three (all four were tie-breakers). But Raonic was ultimately victorious, setting him up to play Frenchman Pierre-Hugues Herbert. He sailed through, closing out the first week.
On Monday his opponent was Alexander Zverev in a highly-anticipated match. Zverev, ranked #4, has beaten Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal is non-Slam tournaments. However, he offered little resistance in the first two sets, picking up only one game in each. Raonic won the third set tiebreak and tonight will go up against 28th seed Lucas Pouille of France. If Raonic bests him it's onto the semi-finals where he would likely face world #1 Novak Djokovic.
