Canadians Will Get To Take Legendary Schwartz's Sandwiches Home

The famous smoked meat shop in Montreal is back in the news, having survived being bought by a conglomerate owned by Celine Dion and her husband. Rather than turn Schwartz's into a franchise, the sandwiches are going to be made available at Sobey's throughout the province. The 80-year-old restaurant will be selling the sandwiches for $10.99 Canadian. Will this sully the brand's long-standing reputation? The Daily Brew wonders why Schwartz’s isn't content to be "a cultural cornerstone, a mecca for meat lovers and the singular destination every food-consuming visitor to Montreal is told to visit?" Will consumers be able to find the sandwiches across the country or in the US before too long? Stay tuned.
