If it weren't enough that your blog mistress hails from the province, it turns out that villages there are home to Canada's highest percentages of centenarians. One reason may be the wild blueberries produced by the millions of tons on this island. They contain something called polyphenols.
But if you can't get to Nova Scotia this summer, pick up some local blueberries and whip up a traditional "grunt"-- lightly cooked blueberries served over a biscuit. It's also known as a slump, a fungy, a buckle, or a bang belly.
And if you're up for some baking over the holiday weekend: Whole-Wheat Blueberry Bars.
