Jason Bay, formerly of the Red Sox, just signed a four-year deal with the Amazins' to be their new left fielder. He'll be #44. The deal with the 31-year-old is worth almost $66M.
He was traded to the Sox in 2008 and due to his low key demeanor and dependability (he is a Canadian, after all), he earned the nickname Every Day Bay. Last season with the Sox, he hit 36 home runs.
Bay is not totally new to the team, having been a Mets minor leaguer. He's also a familiar face to Mets GM Omar Minaya, who was the Expos GM in 2002 and traded Bay to the Mets, who kept him for a few months. Now the team and its GM will get a second chance with the BC native.
