This month, actor and comedian Eugene Levy will receive an ACTRA Award of Excellence. ACTRA is the Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television and Radio Artists. Levy also chairs the Telefilm Canada's Features Comedy Lab, whose goal is to get more Canadian comedy to the screen. The actor is a member of the Order of Canada.
On April 18th, rocker Bryan Adams will be honoured with the Allan Waters Humanitarian Award at this year's 39th Annual Juno Awards telecast. Adams is being recognised for his charitable and fundraising efforts. The singer has had a long history as a humanitarian, co-writing a Canadian charity single on 1985 in support of Ethiopian famine relief, and more recently, performing in Karachi to raise money for the 2005 victims of the earthquake that devastated South Asia. Adams has also set up a namesake foundation that funds children's education and sells his photography to raise money for cancer research.
On this side of the pond, catch the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards on January 31st when Michael Buble will be competing for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album, and Drake (Aubrey Drake Graham) is up for Best Rap Solo Performance and Best Rap Song. His debut full-length album, Thank Me Later, is expected to be released in March.
