It's the 100th ATC Post So It's Gotta Be About Hockey!

Fans of the game are poised to run over CBC officials with a Zamboni after reports yesterday that the beloved theme for Hockey Night In Canada might wind up permanently in the penalty box. CBC Sports Executive Scott Moore is in negotiations with the agency that represents Dolores Claman, who composed the song in 1968, to continue to have use of the theme. The CBC's licensing agreement with Claman ended on Wednesday with the Stanley Cup finals. Both parties had been in discussions since 2004. It costs the broadcaster $500 every time it plays the song. Alternatively, the CBC is contemplating a national songwriting contest to find a new theme. A decision may come as early as Monday after Moore and Claman's representatives meet.
