Convicted Murderer Paul Bernardo Surfaces

Ontario Superior Court Justice David McCombs is going to release the video for television broadcast of an inconclusive June 7, 2007 police interview with Bernardo about the 1990 disappearance of University of Toronto student Elizabeth Bain. The judge has not yet rendered a decision with regard to releasing it online.

Bernardo, one half of the so-called Ken and Barbie murderers (his then-wife, Karla Homolka, was his partner), is serving a life sentence for the murder of two St. Catharines, Ontario schoolgirls in the early 1990s, crimes that had the province on edge for more than a year and the country transfixed. Bernardo was convicted in September 1995. He is also a confessed serial rapist, having committed rape or attempted rape more than a dozen times between the late 1980s and early 1990s in the Scarborough, Ontario area.

Bain's body was never found. Her boyfriend was originally convicted of second-degree murder and served eight years in prison before being acquitted at a second trial last month.
