Hockey Night in Canada - CTV Throws Its Hat Onto The Ice
The CBC's rival network CTV has purchased the rights to The Hockey Theme in perpetuity from Copyright Music and Visuals, the agency that represents the song's composer. According to CBC Sports executive director Scott Moore, the network had offered in the end to meet the agency's price, but never heard back on their last offer. The agency had, in the interim, begun negotiations with CTV. CBC Sports is intending to go ahead with its national contest to find a replacement for Hockey Night in Canada. The son of Stompin' Tom Connors said his father is interested in licensing his famed The Hockey Song. Stay tuned.
