Canada Marks New Territory
Canadian Geographic has reportedly become the first North American magazine to be printed on paper made from wheat. The publication is printing its annual environmental issue on sheets derived from wheat straw. Wheat Sheet is the result of a partnership between Canadian Geographic, Dollco Printing, the Alberta Research Council and Markets Initiative. Markets Initiative is a Canadian environmental organization working with Canadian publishers to guide them toward using environmentally friendly paper to protect ancient and endangered forests. Prior to the Wheat Sheet, Markets Initiative was best known as the company behind the greening of Harry Potter. CG increased its frequency last fall to 10 issues per year and is published by the Royal Canadian Geographic Society.
