Toronto's Soulpepper Theatre Company Invaded New York City For A Month-Long Residency In July

Soulpepper, a 20-year-old company had the risky idea of bringing a bunch of shows to Gotham, having no idea whether audiences would come. In fact, the New York Times and other theatre critics gave rave reviews to a number of their shows including Kim's Convenience and Spoon River Anthology.

I caught the final performance of writer and director Ravi's Jain's A Brimful of Asha. Jain created Asha to showcase what happened to him 10 years ago, when his Indian-born parents ramped up their efforts to get him married off. His parents, who had come together via an arranged marriage, wanted to do the same for their youngest son. Hilarity and a pursuit across India ensued.
