Milos Raonic Makes It To The Australian Semi-Finals But Falls To Andy Murray In Five Sets

In a first for Canada, a Canadian man made it to the second to last round of the Australian Grand Slam. Raonic, ranked #13, defeated three seeded players in a Major for the first time in his career including #4 seed Swiss Stan Wawrinka in five sets on Sunday before facing France's Gael Monfils and taking him out in four sets on Wednesday. Murray, the #2 seed, had a sluggish opening set, giving up two games off the bat to Raonic. The rest of the set followed suit, but after blazing through to win that one 6-4, the only other set Raonic managed to take was the third, in a tie break. It was only Raonic's second trip to a Grand Slam Semi-Final. He made it to that round at Wimbledon in 2014 losing to Roger Federer.

But Canada is still in the mix for the Men's Doubles final which will air tomorrow. Daniel Nestor and his Czech teammate, Radek Stepanek, will go up against Britain's Jamie Murray and Brazil's Bruno Soares. Nestor is seeking his second Australian Open title and his first since 2002. The 43-year-old just earned his 1,000 pro doubles victory and has won eight Grand Slam doubles championships.
