Earlier today, Eugenie Bouchard of Montreal, who went into the tournament ranked #13, upset Romania's Simona Halep, a #3 seed. With her victory, Bouchard, 20, is the first Canadian singles tennis player to reach a Grand Slam final. Bouchard won 7-6 (5), 6-2 on the grass at the All England Club.
It's been a big year for Bouchard, who has made a name for herself at the Australian and French Opens. She made it to the semi-finals at both, but lost.
On Saturday, she will face #6 Petra Kvitova, a Czech player she went up against last summer in Toronto, ultimately losing the match. Kvitova, a lefty, won Wimbledon three years ago.
But before that, Canada sends Milos Raonic to play seven-time Wimbledon champion Roger Federer in the men's semifinals tomorrow morning (11 AM EST). No Canadian men's singles player has ever made it to a semi-final.
