Staples Gets A Union In - Where Else - Canada, Of Course!
A Staples store in Winnipeg has unionized and is currently the only one on the continent for the multinational company. Previously four other Staples Canada stores had been unionized but are now decertified. Approximately 40 employees are represented by Local 832 of the UFCW (United Food and Commercial Workers). Staples Canada is staffed by nearly 15,000 workers in over 300 stores. Under Manitoba law, since 65% of the employees signed cards in favour of unionization, certification was automatic.
