The owners of gourmet pizza joint Pizzeria Gusto fired their head chef last month for saucy comments he made that were published in a new book. Scott Bagshaw told CBC News he was terminated by owner Bobby Mottola as a result of remarks he made about the business, his past drug use and naughty interactions with colleagues while at work. The locally published book is called The Last Crumb, written by a Red River College communications student as part of a year-long project. After he was dumped, Bagshaw went into the kitchen and informed his staff, some of whom quit on the spot before a busy shift.
One of Bagshaw's comments: "Being in an open kitchen does have its perks. 'We play the "would you" game,' laughs [Bagshaw], who spends most of his 14-hour shifts rubbing elbows with his sous-chef Matt. 'You know, "would you sleep with her?" type of thing. We have our inside jokes, it makes you forget you’ve been working 14 hours.'"
Pizzeria Gusto is located on Academy Road for anyone who knows the 'Peg intimately. The restaurant was closed for several days after the hubbub, but is presumably back in business by now.
