Infectious Disease Scare Aboard Ontario Via Rail Train
Yesterday morning, SARS-level fears were stoked when an 86-year-old passenger died suddenly after experiencing shortness of breath. Six additional passengers took ill nearly immediately, and the train, with nearly 300 person aboard, was quarantined outside the tiny town of Foleyet, Ontario. By the time the train left last night en route to Toronto, the panic had subsided. A companion of the deceased had been airlifted to a hospital in Timmins and is in stable condition, and the five remaining sick travelers, tourists from Australia, were placed in isolation to prevent the spread of their flu-like symptoms. The train arrived in Toronto this morning without further incident.
