Welcome to the inaugural edition of All Things Canadian

Rather than harass (or delight) just friends and family with my vast knowledge of Canadiana, I've created this blog to spread the joy. Now the far reaches of the globe can share in my obsess...let's just say abiding national pride.

Intrigued, you are no doubt asking, why launch now? It's a big week for Canucks, kicking off tonight with Turner Classic Movie's Norman Jewison: Private Screenings (8:00 EST). Following the retrospective, the Toronto native and four-time Academy Award nominee gets an all-night showcase. Set your VCRs, Tivo's or whatever for Moonstruck, The Cincinnati Kid, The Russians Are Coming, The Russians Are Coming and Gaily (not yet out on DVD).

If you stay up all night, catch a nap so you'll be ready for David Cronenberg's Eastern Promises. It's opening Friday and if you were more a fan of A History of Violence than Scanners, the early word is you won't be disappointed. What is in Toronto's drinking water?

Finally, in case you were beginning to think this was going to be an all-Toronno (as the natives like to say) dispatch, if you've caught the latest ipod commercial (with all the different ipod faces) and were wondering what that excellent song is that's playing, I'm here to clue you in. It's 1234 by Feist. Go Nova Scotia! If they still have record stores in your part of the world, pick up her latest, The Reminder. Or download it: it is one of the best albums of the year, hands down.

Ok Miss Smarty Pants re all things Canadiana. esp. Nova Scotia.... what's the story on Nova as opposed to Lox? And does all Nova come from Nova Scotia? Lastly, as a local restaurant food critic, can you tell me where I can find that Great Canadian Treat, Macintosh Toffee, the only candy I know that can extract dental implants in one ill timed bite.
